Launch of the Lagos International Animation Festival 2022

The highly publicized Lagos International Animation Festival 2022 (LIFANIMA) finally kicked off on Tuesday, October 25.

This year’s edition titled “Get Animated, Season 6” took place at Freedom Park, Lagos Island.

This is a three-day event that will run from Tuesday October 25th to Thursday October 27th. While the first two days (25 and 26) will take place at Freedom Park, the last day (27) is billed at the Mike Adenuga Centre, Alliance Française in Ikoyi.

Present at the opening day were festival director Muyiwa Kayode, artistic filmmaker, painter, sculptor, graphic designer and animator Stanley Ohikhuare, renowned animators in Nigeria Richard Oboh, Dami Solesi and Esther Gbadamosi as well as upcoming animators.

The festival began with a panel discussion on the theme: The Sound of Animation – A Virtual Conversation with Pete O’Donoghue.

Pete O’ Donoghue is the CEO of Upstanding Studio, Cape Town, South Africa.

Also present at the round table were the popular animators Oboh, Solesi, Gbadamosi, led by Ohikhuare.

During the session, O’Donoghue explained how to properly use sound in animation and also answered questions from the panelists.

And after the session, a screening of films of different animations was presented as well as questions and answers.

The festival continues today (Wednesday) with another panel discussion on the theme: The future of African animation.

LIFANIMA, which has become the second largest animated film festival in Africa, is proudly supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Lagos State and endorsed by the National Board of Film Censors and of the video. It is also supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria.

The festival received 1,096 films from over 100 countries, of which 136 were selected to be screened at the 3-day Festival.
