Montreal’s Mile End will host a Japanese cultural festival with street food and a market

YATAI MTL, a Japanese food and culture festival, returns to Montreal’s Mile End in full form in June after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

The three-day event will feature street food vendors and a market in a neighborhood park, according to a press release shared with MTL Blog. Visitors will also be able to participate in on-site activities and “cultural programs”.

This year, YATAI MTL will run alongside the second edition of Japan Week, where local Japanese restaurants will showcase their offerings.

Restaurant owners can register to participate via an online form until April 18.

Organizers say they “expect to find lots of Japanese street food, sake, Japanese whiskey and beer, Japanese produce and a swarm of Shiba” at both events.

The popularity of Japan Week 2021’s Shiba Inu party led to a spring of other adorable dog events, including a Shiba v. corgi, which has warmed many hearts weary from the pandemic.

YATAI MTL also hinted at an “80s Japanese disco party” during the 2022 event.

YATAI MTL will take place from June 10 to 12, 2022. The second edition of Japan Week is scheduled for June 6 to 12.
