On Saturday October 30, the Nicosia International Festival lifts the curtain with 21 productions, 26 performances and dozens of artists.
An announcement says that the Nicosia International Festival sets the stage for a new journey full of music, theater, modern dance, tastes and a rich side program with interesting activities for young and old and seeks to become for all “An ascension of the soul, an antidote to nearly two years of inactivity for the peoples of civilization”.

According to the announcement, the city center will come back to life and the lights will be on again at the Nicosia Municipal Theater with productions from Greece and Cyprus with the axis of diversity, acceptance, coexistence, l union, equality.
“Our emblem this year is the medieval Venetian wall of Nicosia, that cohesive element of our city which underlines our need to coexist and co-create. our Festival, ”says the announcement.
This year’s event cycle opens and ends with Greece’s two most important composers, international and world-renowned Manos Hadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis. The start is with the presence of the Cyprus National Opera Ballet and the important production of “Dance with my shadow”, with music by Manos Hadjidakis and choreography by Konstantinos Rigos, at 30 (20:30) and 31 (5:00 PM) October 2021 at the Municipal Theater of Nicosia. The Cyprus National Opera Ballet tour is carried out with the support of the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (ISN) [www.SNF.org] strengthen the artistic extraversion of the National Opera.
In “Dance with my shadow”, ELS Ballet director Konstantinos Rigos choreographs four unique works by the great Manos Hadjidakis for the National Opera Ballet.
In the “CNS Circle”, the raging sea is the scene of loss and pain, in “Captain Michael” the humid night wind from the south “falls on women like a man and on men like a woman”, on the Cursed Serpent the figure of Karagiozis is the symbol of timeless folk art, while in Gioconda’s Smile New York becomes the luxurious and noisy backdrop that surrounds the loneliness and despair of modern life.
Manos Hadjidakis defined the landscape of Greek music and modern Greek culture as few in number. His quests and influences have led him down many different paths. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the fruits of his creative seeds can be found on the four corners of the horizon. Konstantinos Rigos was inspired by this landscape for the choreography, in which he travels to the four points of the horizon of Hajjidakian work, including so many emblematic works in a modular representation.
After November 4, 5, 6 and 7, the presence in Cyprus of the new work of the internationally renowned Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou “Transverse Orientation” which comes to the Nicosia International Festival for its Panhellenic premiere, after its successful performance in, Amsterdam , Barcelona, Paris and London.
The 30-day celebration of the Nicosia International Festival includes productions of young and old Cypriots, Greeks and promising artists, premieres of new theatrical and musical performances, a three-day celebration, a party with “Tastes of music” where you will liven up the shops of the city while inside there will be concerts.
The end of the Festival is marked this year by the Mikis Theodorakis Orchestra, which wishes the Nicosia International Festival and the Municipality of Nicosia to honor the Eternal Greeks Mikis. As part of the concert and after decision of the City Council, the rue du Musée (street in front of the Nicosia Municipal Theater) will be renamed rue Miki Theodoraki.
