Real Lava, the premium international documentary

production house, won two awards

at the Sundance Film Festival with “The Territory”

Launched in December 2021 by Newen Studios and Danish producer Sigrid Dyekjaer, Real Lava has already met with great success with its first production “The Territory”.

The first documentary film of the recently created production house receives 2 prizes for “The

Territory” at the Sundance Film Festival: World Cinema Documentary Audience Award and Special Jury Prize for Documentary Craftsmanship.

1730 feature documentaries had been submitted to Sundance this year.

National Geographic Documentary Films have also just announced that they have purchased the rights to “The Territory”.

“The territory” offers an immersive, on-the-ground look at the tireless struggle of the Uru-eu-wau-wau indigenous people against the invasive deforestation brought by illegal settlers and an association of not nativefarmers in the Brazilian Amazon. With inspiringcinematography showcasing the titular landscape and a richly textured sound design, the film takes audiences deep into the Uru-eu-wau-waucommunity, and provides unprecedented access to settlers illegally clearing land and a network of desperate farmers advocating for colonization access to protected rainforest. Partially knocked down by the Uru-eu-wau-wau people, the film uses style truthfootage, captured over three years, as activists risk their lives to create their own news media team in hopes of exposing the truth.

Based in Copenhagen (Denmark), the new company Real Lava is a leading international documentary production house, owned by European production group Newen Studios, and Oscar-nominated, Emmy and Peabody winner Sigrid Dyekjaer. Real Lava produces ambitious documentary films and series for a large international audience with cinematic execution and high artistic value.

Produced by Sigrid Dyekjaer, Darren Aronofsky, Will N. Miller, Lizzie Gillett and Gabriel Uchida, “The Territory” (83 minutes) is directed by Alex Pritz.

For Sigrid Dyekjaer, main producer of the film and responsible for Real Lava: “You couldn’t imagine a better start for Real Lava. We not only secured the film worldwide distribution, but also made possible the realization of a global impact campaign, where we focus on

enormous challenges and consequences that deforestation in the Amazon brings, in particular

for the climate.”

Philippe Levasseurthe international manager of Newen Studios adds: “We couldn’t imagine a

best start for Real Lava. This documentary is everything we’re aiming for: very high-end execution, hard-hitting subject matter, combination of very experienced and more junior talent, and now
