VALPARAISO – The 12th Annual World Cultural Festival returns to Central Park Plaza in Valparaiso on September 19 to celebrate cultural diversity in Northwest Indiana.

it is sponsored by the International Center of Valparaiso (the CIV) and takes place from noon to 5 p.m.

The festival is open to everyone, admission is free, and CDC guidelines will be followed.

“The World Cultural Festival is the culmination of our efforts to promote greater global awareness and connections among the many cultures that make up our local community,” said Duane Davison, founding president of VIC. “The event gives people the opportunity to get to know each other, enjoy music and dance, taste food and make new friends.”

Christopher McQuillin’s Scottish Bagpipe Sound will open the event at the Porter Health Amphitheater, followed by a variety of dance and music performers.

“We have a terrific lineup of artists this year” representing cultures from India, Mexico, Bulgaria, Ireland, China and the United States, Scotland and Greece, said Jen Hernandez, co-director of entertainment for the festival.

“A highlight of the festival is the Parade des Nations.” said Hugh McGuigan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the VIC. “We encourage participants to wear traditional clothing and wear the flag of their place of birth or ancestral homeland.”
